Building Strong Content Knowledge through Close Reading for Secondary Teachers

This session focuses on understanding close reading as a continuum of many different experiences ranging in complexity. This may be a new approach for teachers who view close reading as one activity that follows the same structure each time it is used. In this session, participants will read an article and watch classroom footage to deepen their understanding of close reading, evaluate examples of close reading and place them on a continuum from least to most complex, and apply learning by creating a set of text-dependent questions to be used for closely reading a text.
