Does Each Part of the Reading Process System Work Together?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This session will illustrate the key ingredients that are necessary for the brain to work in harmony to construct meaning. Researchers have likened the network of literacy strategies as an integration of lots of brain parts working together as a symphony. As educators we understand the overall goal of reading is comprehension, yet to attain this goal, the function of several specific abilities must be coordinated. Marilyn Adams' 1990 book, "Beginning To Read" was a landmark review of the research on how the four-part processing model supports word recognition. Together we will breakdown the subcomponents within each processing system and explore what each processor is responsible for and how each one contributes to proficient reading and writing.
